Police look for fake ICE vehicle stalking parking lot of WA Ukrainian market

Tacoma, WALocal News

Authorities in Fife, Washington, are actively pursuing an investigation into an impostor posing as a U. S. Department of Homeland Security agent, who was seen driving a vehicle with "ICE" decals at Emish Market, a store that serves the Ukrainian community. This alarming incident has raised fears among employees and customers, with concerns that it could be a hate crime targeting vulnerable individuals. Surveillance footage captured the vehicle circling the market multiple times, prompting a security guard to confront it before it drove away.

The Fife Police Department and the FBI are working together to identify the suspect and vehicle, with reports of sightings across the South Sound area. ICE has condemned the impersonation, emphasizing that such actions are illegal and dangerous for community trust. Emish Market's manager, Olena Ray, expressed the significance of creating a safe space for Ukrainians who have fled the war against Russia. The incident underscores the challenges immigrant communities face, particularly in a politically charged environment. It serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and verification of law enforcement credentials.
