SPS cancels after-school activities due to severe storm threat in WA

The Seattle area is bracing for a rare occurrence of strong to severe thunderstorms expected on Wednesday afternoon and evening. In light of this weather threat, Seattle Public Schools (SPS) has proactively canceled all after-school activities, prioritizing the safety of students and staff. The announcement was made via email to families and staff, indicating that school buildings will close after 5 p. m. All sports events and other meetings scheduled for the evening are also affected and will be rescheduled.

The SPS Office of Public Affairs expressed regret for the short notice but stressed the importance of community safety. Parents are advised to pick up their children early to ensure safe transportation home. As the weather conditions evolve, SPS district staff will closely monitor the situation and provide timely updates through their website. This proactive approach reflects the district's commitment to student safety in the face of severe weather.
