Rescuers search for woman who fell into Carbon River in WA

Tacoma, WALocal News

An urgent search and recovery operation is currently focused on a 28-year-old woman who reportedly fell into the Carbon River in Washington on Sunday morning. Accompanied by her dog, she fell into the water around 11:30 a. m. , prompting her girlfriend to hike out to call for help. Although the dog was located by drone a few miles downriver, the search efforts faced immediate challenges due to fast, deep water and debris in the river.

As conditions worsened, the operation transitioned from a rescue to a recovery mission, with authorities warning that the water's dangers make it impossible to safely deploy swift water rescue teams. Piercing County Deputy Carly Cappetto described the treacherous environment, noting the presence of sharp rocks and heavy brush complicating the search. Multiple agencies, including the Coast Guard and local fire departments, are working collaboratively to locate the missing woman. Despite the suspension of water operations, ground teams continue to search for her using ropes and other means. This developing story highlights the pressing dangers posed by extreme weather and swift waterways in the region.
