Tacoma City Council Adopts Resolutions Supporting Inclusivity and Anti-Discrimination

On February 25, 2025, Tacoma City Council members Olgy Diaz and Sandesh Sadalge announced the adoption of Resolution 41627 and Substitute Resolution 41628, which align local policies with Washington state law to prohibit the use of city resources for discriminatory practices. Resolution 41627 specifically restricts investigations or enforcement actions based solely on race, religion, immigration status, or national origin. Council Member Sadalge highlighted Tacoma's commitment to inclusivity and compassion, stating that the city's diversity is a fundamental part of its identity. Substitute Resolution 41628 reaffirms support for the LGBTQIA2S+ community, particularly focusing on the rights and safety of transgender individuals. Diaz emphasized the need for local action against ongoing discrimination and systemic barriers faced by marginalized groups.
