City of Tacoma and Port of Tacoma to Partner on Tideflats Subarea Plan

Tacoma, WALocal News

The City of Tacoma and the Port of Tacoma are embarking on a collaborative effort to develop a Tideflats subarea plan through an Interlocal Agreement (ILA). Mayor Marilyn Strickland announced the partnership, highlighting the need for a comprehensive approach to tackle community concerns regarding future developments in the Tideflats area. This subarea plan will offer more detailed guidance than the existing land use designations in the City’s Comprehensive Plan. Stakeholders will include community members, local businesses, the City Council, and the Port of Tacoma, ensuring a thorough and inclusive planning process. The plan will address critical issues such as land use, zoning, transportation infrastructure, environmental reviews, and economic considerations.

Deputy Mayor Robert Thoms underscored the importance of this initiative in providing certainty to citizens and businesses. The collaboration aims to create a robust framework that reflects the aspirations and needs of the Tacoma community. This strategic planning effort is expected to enhance the development potential of the Tideflats while balancing environmental and economic interests.
