City of Tacoma to Conduct Tideflats Subarea Plan

Tacoma, WALocal News

The City of Tacoma is set to embark on the Tideflats Subarea Plan, aimed at ensuring robust community dialogue about the Port of Tacoma and its adjacent areas. Scheduled for consideration on May 9, 2017, the City plans to allocate $500,000 to fund half of the estimated costs for the planning process, with the Port contributing the remaining funds. Alongside this, Resolution 39723 will be reviewed to consolidate various zoning and land use requests into a single, comprehensive planning framework. Council Member McCarthy emphasized that this resolution is vital for fostering inclusive discussions about current and future developments in the Tideflats area. The overarching goals of the plan include the creation of vibrant residential neighborhoods, the promotion of economic growth, and the safeguarding of environmental health.

Given the increasing interest in the Tideflats, this structured process will help clarify policy and establish a long-term vision for the area. The initiative aligns with state and regional policies while reflecting the unique character and values of Tacoma. As the planning process unfolds, it aims to engage the community in shaping the future of this significant economic hub.
