Tacoma Community House celebrates 115 years
Tacoma Community House (TCH) celebrated its 115th anniversary, reflecting on its rich history of supporting immigrants and refugees in the Tacoma area. Founded in 1910, TCH has continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of the community, offering essential services in immigration, education, and housing. The anniversary event brought together current and former staff, board members, and community supporters, all committed to TCH's vision for a welcoming region. Executive Director Aimee Khuu highlighted the pressing need for hope amid the current political climate, where immigration policies are under scrutiny. Council member Kristina Walker emphasized TCH's critical role as a bastion of support for vulnerable populations during these uncertain times.
Former Executive Director Liz Dunbar praised the organization's resilience and dedication, noting that many locals remain unaware of its significant contributions. TCH's humble approach to service has made it a vital part of Tacoma's social services landscape, providing a sanctuary for those new to the country. As TCH looks to the future, its focus on community empowerment and advocacy continues to resonate with supporters and clients alike.
