Shelters on Alert as Coldest Weather Hits Tacoma and Olympia Areas
The Tacoma and Olympia areas are bracing for their coldest weather of the winter, with temperatures forecasted to plummet to the mid-20s overnight. The National Weather Service highlights that regions like Bellingham are particularly at risk, with lows potentially reaching 27 degrees. To combat the harsh conditions, Pierce County has activated several daytime warming centers, providing refuge for those in need. Notable shelters include Catholic Community Services and St. Vincent de Paul in Tacoma, as well as New Hope Resource Center in Puyallup.
Thurston County has also established emergency overnight shelters, including Sergio’s Place for adults and Pear Blossom Place for families. Olympia Mutual Aid Partners will enhance the distribution of survival supplies to unsheltered individuals, highlighting community solidarity during this challenging time. Donations of essential items such as blankets, clothing, and non-perishable food are being accepted to assist local shelters. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and utilize available resources to navigate the severe weather.
