Pierce Co. sheriff’s deputies rescue 50 animals in Roy area | Tacoma News Tribune
On December 16, Pierce County Sheriff's deputies rescued over 50 animals, including 35 dogs, 18 cats, and one horse, from a property in the Roy area, acting on allegations of illegal breeding and animal cruelty. The rescue operation was initiated following a complaint received on November 23 that led to an extensive investigation. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the animals in poor living conditions, raising immediate concerns for their health and welfare. After being examined by local veterinarians, the animals will be transferred to the Humane Society for additional care and rehabilitation. While charges have been filed against the caretaker, a 28-year-old woman, a judge's probable-cause ruling is pending based on a veterinarian's report.
The sheriff's department spokesperson emphasized that animal cruelty can manifest in various forms, including neglect of proper medical treatment. Although the woman has not faced previous animal-related charges, she is known to law enforcement for past offenses. This situation highlights the critical need for animal welfare oversight and the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspected abuse.
