On December 14, 2024, the Grandview community gathered for the annual Wreaths Across America Remembrance Wreath Laying Ceremony, honoring the sacrifices of 554 veterans at the local cemetery. Sally Van Horn, who spoke at the event, highlighted the importance of collective remembrance, stating, “We shall not forget you. We shall remember. ” Volunteers, including students from Grandview High School and local families, laid wreaths on the graves, underscoring the community's commitment to honoring those who served. These efforts were complemented by students from Harriet Thompson and McClure Elementary Schools, who secured sponsorships for the wreaths, ensuring the tradition continues.

The ceremony featured wreaths representing each branch of the armed forces, along with special tributes for prisoners of war and those missing in action. John Meyer, chaplain of the American Legion Post, delivered a poignant invocation, asking for comfort for families experiencing loss. This event served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for freedom and the importance of community involvement in honoring veterans.
