St. Petersburg's Lonestar Data Holdings is set to install the first data center on the Moon by January 2025, a move that positions the company as a pioneer in extraterrestrial data storage. This initiative builds on their February achievement as the first entity to successfully transmit data from space. Lonestar has formed a strategic partnership with Austin-based Valkyrie, an AI research and development company, to implement Valkyrie's innovative AI-powered Graph Database on the lunar surface. This technology promises to significantly speed up data retrieval while conserving energy and resources.

The lunar data center aims to protect data against earthly threats, such as environmental disasters and security breaches, by utilizing the Moon's unique environment. The partnership highlights the potential for significant advancements in data storage technology and the development of a lunar economy. Lonestar's founder, Chris Stott, emphasized the transformative potential of this venture, both for space operations and terrestrial data management. The collaboration between Lonestar and Valkyrie is expected to set new standards in data storage efficiency and security.
