American Freight is preparing to close its locations in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Tampa due to the bankruptcy filing of its parent company, Franchise Group Inc. This decision results in the closure of all 328 stores nationwide, which has caused significant concern among local consumers and employees. With seven stores located in the Tampa Bay area, the impact of this closure is felt deeply within the community. In an effort to manage the closure, American Freight is offering discounts of up to 30% on its remaining inventory, providing an opportunity for consumers to purchase furniture at reduced prices.

The bankruptcy reflects larger economic challenges faced by retailers, particularly in the furniture sector, where competition and changing buying habits have led to struggles. Local residents are urged to take advantage of the sales before the stores permanently close their doors. This situation exemplifies the shifting landscape of retail in the Tampa Bay region, where many businesses are reevaluating their operations. The closures also raise concerns about job loss and the future availability of affordable furniture options in the area.
