A touching tale from St. Petersburg, Florida, reveals how a kitten named Bridget is regaining her eyesight thanks to the generosity of a dog named Blanche. At just one month old, Bridget was brought to the Friends of Strays Animal Shelter with a severe corneal ulcer that could have resulted in the loss of her eye. The veterinary team, led by Medical Director Katie Emerson, knew they needed to act swiftly and opted to create a serum from blood donated by another animal. This is where Blanche, a calm and cooperative five-year-old dog residing at the shelter, stepped in to help.
After receiving the blood serum and antibiotic eye drops every two hours for weeks, Bridget's vision improved, and she will retain both eyes. The story serves as a testament to the unlikely friendships that can exist between dogs and cats and the impact of animal rescue organizations. Just days after her life-saving donation, Blanche found her forever home, while Bridget and her two brothers, Digit and Fidget, are set to be adopted soon. “Blanche really did save Bridget’s eye,” said Emerson, highlighting the unique bond that can form in rescue situations.
