Balfour Park Expansion Project

Spokane, WALocal News

The Balfour Park Expansion Project is a transformative collaboration between the City of Spokane Valley and the Spokane County Library District, revitalizing a central community hub. The project includes a new public library, opened in June 2023, and an expansion of parkland by approximately 5. 6 acres. The first phase of improvements, totaling around $5 million, introduced several recreational facilities, including a Sounders FC soccer mini-pitch and a Veterans Memorial. A recent celebration event on September 19, 2024, attracted community members, offering free soccer balls, books, and t-shirts to children, enhancing local engagement.

The City is actively pursuing grant funding for future enhancements, including a large playground and splash pad. This initiative not only addresses immediate recreational needs but also fosters long-term relationships among residents through inclusive events, reflecting a commitment to improving the quality of life in Spokane Valley and establishing the park as a vital community asset.
