Snohomish, WALocal News

The Snohomish Panthers made history by winning the state championship in girls' basketball during a tournament in Spokane on March 8 and 9. This eighth-grade team, which has played together since fifth grade, demonstrated their skill and determination in the silver bracket, easily winning their first two games. After edging Ellensburg in a nail-biting match, they secured a spot in the finals by defeating Monroe. The championship game against White River proved challenging, with the Panthers trailing by seven points at halftime. However, they executed a strategic zone defense, allowing them to rally back and secure the title.

Coach Becki Koehler commended the unselfishness of her players, particularly highlighting the contributions of Allie Koehler and Terrayia Baisy. Despite a 5-9 season record, their performance in qualifying tournaments paved the way for this state victory. The win not only celebrates their athletic achievement but also sets the stage for their future at Snohomish High School.
