Snohomish County Surface Water Management Launches River Gauge Notifications

Snohomish, WALocal News

Snohomish County has launched a new real-time notification system that allows residents and recreational users to receive critical flood information based on river gauge data. By registering for text or email alerts, individuals can be notified when any of the county's 16 river gauges reach flood phases 2 through 4, which represent increasing levels of flooding risk. This initiative is particularly beneficial for those living or recreating near rivers and aims to enhance public safety and preparedness. Unlike the SnoCo Alerts system, which delivers life-safety information and immediate action directives, these river gauge notifications provide real-time updates without forecasting future flood scenarios. Gregg Farris, the Director of Surface Water Management, highlighted the significance of understanding these flood phases and their potential impacts on local communities.

Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the flood phases and subscribe to receive alerts tailored to their specific geographic areas. To sign up, residents can visit https://snohomish. onerain. com, where they can choose the river basin, gauge, and flood phases they wish to monitor. This proactive approach underscores Snohomish County's commitment to fostering a safe and informed community in the face of flooding risks.
