Standoff in Ballinger neighborhood Thursday evening

A domestic violence incident that began in Edmonds on April 17, 2025, culminated in a lengthy standoff in Shoreline's Ballinger neighborhood. Police located the suspect around 5 PM, who was armed with at least one knife and made violent threats towards law enforcement. Negotiators engaged in hours of communication using bullhorns, while officers from various nearby jurisdictions, including Shoreline and Lake Forest Park, stood by in support. The King County Crisis Negotiation Team and Mental Health team were also present to assist in the resolution. Two SWAT teams arrived in armored vehicles, and Shoreline Medics were on standby throughout the ordeal.

After several hours, the suspect surrendered with self-inflicted injuries shortly after 9 PM. He was taken into custody and booked into Snohomish County Jail for domestic violence and additional offenses. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported among other individuals involved in the incident, highlighting the effectiveness of crisis negotiation in potentially volatile situations.
