Rotary clubs ship fire truck to Guatemalan fire brigade

Shoreline, WALocal News

The Lake Forest Park Rotary Club, in collaboration with the Calgary Rotary Club, dedicated over two years to the successful donation and shipment of a firetruck to a volunteer fire brigade in Guatemala. Rotarian Ed Sterner was key in this effort, traveling to Joint Base Lewis McChord on March 28, 2025, to oversee the loading of the firetruck onto a C-5 aircraft. This significant project required extensive coordination and paperwork, reflecting the commitment of Rotary clubs to international service. Upon its successful arrival in Guatemala, both Sterner and Mary Starkebaum, Chair of the International Services Committee, received recognition for their hard work and dedication. This accomplishment exemplifies the impactful humanitarian efforts that Rotary supports worldwide.

The Lake Forest Park Rotary Club continues to engage the local community, inviting residents to participate in their weekly breakfast meetings every Wednesday at 7:15 am. Such initiatives not only aid communities abroad but also foster local engagement and collaboration. The story serves as an inspiring reminder of how dedicated individuals can make a difference across borders.
