King County announces Connections Health Solutions as operator of first Crisis Care Center in Kirkland
King County Executive Dow Constantine has announced that Connections Health Solutions will operate the county's inaugural crisis care center, a pivotal development for mental health care in the region. Located in Kirkland, this facility will become a key part of a new network of crisis centers established under the voter-approved Crisis Care Centers Initiative, which aims to enhance behavioral health services throughout King County. Approved by voters in 2023, the initiative seeks to provide a safe alternative for individuals in mental health or substance use crises, reducing reliance on emergency rooms and police intervention. Connections Kirkland will offer urgent mental health care for all ages, although it currently does not cater to youth, and will have a permanent location to ensure the continuity of services. Annual funding will support competitive wages for the workforce, facilitating the recruitment and retention of skilled professionals.
By the end of 2025, King County aims to select organizations to operate additional crisis care centers, with all five expected to be operational by 2030. This initiative underscores a commitment to accessible mental health care for all residents, irrespective of their insurance status. The county has also expanded its mobile crisis teams to provide immediate support across the region.
