King County assessor slams Constantine Sound Transit CEO appointment 'Too many insiders'
King County Assessor John Wilson has expressed strong opposition to the selection of Dow Constantine as the new CEO of Sound Transit, describing it as a troubling example of insider politics. The nomination process has faced backlash for its lack of transparency, particularly since Constantine, a former Sound Transit Board chair, appointed many current members. Wilson stated that this relationship raises serious questions about the integrity of the selection process and public trust in government. He emphasized the urgent need for improved public transit options, pointing out that Sound Transit is currently over budget and behind schedule. Wilson, who is also campaigning for King County executive, called for a reevaluation of the agency's leadership to address its financial challenges.
He suggested that lawmakers should consider restructuring the board or that voters might need to take action through an initiative. The criticism comes as board members Balducci and Zahilay are also seeking Constantine's endorsement for their campaigns to replace him as King County executive. Wilson’s remarks highlight the broader concerns about governance and accountability in public transit management.
