Recycle and reuse? New thrift shop lined up as Lifelong to say goodbye to Broadway store UPDATE
Lifelong, a Seattle nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals living with HIV, has announced the closure of its thrift division, which has operated on Broadway since early 2015. The organization plans to transition the retail space to a new thrift shop managed by Tamara Asakawa, Lifelong Thrift's current director. This strategic move comes as Lifelong aims to concentrate on its core services, particularly as it expands its kitchen and meal operations to better serve the community. CEO Erica Sessle emphasized that shutting down the underperforming store will help the nonprofit weather an uncertain future and improve its food distribution efforts. Lifelong Thrift's closure marks a significant change in the Capitol Hill retail scene, where vintage shops remain vital to the neighborhood's identity.
The new thrift shop is expected to maintain the community's connection to sustainable shopping while providing continued support for Lifelong’s mission. As the nonprofit navigates this transition, it remains committed to ensuring a smooth experience for both customers and employees. More details regarding the new shop's plans will be released soon.
