Why the Broadway Center for Youth is coming to the center of Capitol Hill
The Broadway Center for Youth is a transformative project under construction in Capitol Hill, designed to address the pressing issue of youth homelessness. This center will serve young adults aged 18 to 24, offering a range of services including job training, case management, and mental health support. Located at the intersection of Broadway and Pine, the center's strategic position will provide easy access to local colleges and employers, enhancing job opportunities for its users. YouthCare CEO Degale Cooper emphasizes the importance of community engagement, stating that the center will foster a sense of belonging among young people. The project also includes a partnership with Community Roots Housing, which will provide 84 affordable homes, further addressing the housing crisis.
As the area faces challenges related to addiction and mental health, this initiative represents a critical step toward improving community well-being. The center is expected to open in Spring 2027, after an estimated two years of construction. YouthCare aims to tailor its programs to meet the specific needs of the neighborhood, reinforcing its commitment to ending youth homelessness in King County.
