Recycle and reuse? New thrift shop lined up as Lifelong to say goodbye to Broadway store UPDATE
Lifelong, a dedicated nonprofit in Seattle that supports individuals living with HIV, is shutting down its thrift division, which has been a staple on Broadway since 2015. The organization announced plans to replace the Lifelong Thrift Shop with a new thrift entity, spearheaded by current director Tamara Asakawa. This strategic decision is aimed at allowing Lifelong to concentrate on its core services, particularly in light of challenges posed by a new administration. CEO Erica Sessle noted that the closure of the thrift store, which was Lifelong's only retail location, would facilitate an expansion of their kitchen and meal services, ultimately aiming to help more individuals in need. The move comes as Lifelong prepares to navigate a more uncertain future while ensuring a smooth transition for customers and employees.
The Capitol Hill area remains a hub for vintage shopping, despite the closure of Lifelong's thrift shop, with various other shops continuing to thrive. As the nonprofit shifts its focus, the community can expect updates regarding the new thrift shop's plans soon. This transition reflects Lifelong's commitment to enhancing its service offerings while maintaining a strong presence in the local retail landscape.
