Pedestrian corridors, public restrooms, and a neighborhood name change highlight Capitol Hill Community Councils Great Ideas Festival
The Capitol Hill Community Council (CHCC) recently held its Great Ideas Festival, a gathering aimed at revitalizing community engagement and soliciting input on local improvements. Attendees, including city council members, shared their ideas on various topics, including public safety, transportation, and urban development. Among the more serious suggestions were calls for increased public restroom access and the closure of East Barbara Bailey Way to vehicle traffic. The festival also encouraged creativity, with some attendees humorously proposing to rename Capitol Hill to Capitol Mountain or even to open a combination yarn store and sex shop. The CHCC, which has a history dating back over 50 years, aims to incorporate these ideas into actionable plans.
Following its re-establishment last September, the council has focused on fostering community dialogue and addressing local concerns. A public meeting is scheduled to review the ideas gathered, highlighting the council's commitment to involving residents in the decision-making process. This event signals a significant step toward enhancing the Capitol Hill neighborhood's livability and safety.
