Seattle City Councilmember Dan Strauss, who serves as Chair of the Select Budget Committee, has publicly thanked Mayor Bruce Harrell for his recent proposal regarding the City of Seattle’s budget for 2025-2026. In his statement, Strauss underscored the critical role of the City Council in the budget process, which involves reviewing, amending, and ultimately passing the budget. He expressed a commitment to a transparent and collaborative approach, highlighting the necessity of balancing fiscal responsibility with the community’s pressing needs. Strauss identified several priority areas for the budget, including improving public safety, increasing affordable housing, and addressing the issue of homelessness. The Select Budget Committee has been engaged in preparations for the budget season since April, a significant lead time compared to previous years.
The first meeting of the fall budget process is scheduled for tomorrow at 9:30 AM, where the committee will get an overview of the mayor’s budget proposal from the City Budget Office.
