Work Begins on Constellation Center Affordable Housing and Education Academy for Homeless Youth
The Constellation Center, a significant development in Capitol Hill, has officially started construction, with plans to open in 2027. This eight-story project will feature 84 affordable housing units tailored for individuals with incomes between 30% and 50% of the Area Median Income, addressing critical housing shortages in the area. In collaboration with YouthCare, the center will provide comprehensive resources, encompassing workforce training, mental health support, and housing navigation for homeless and at-risk youth. Community Roots Housing is leading the initiative amidst ongoing challenges in the affordable housing sector, including supply chain issues and economic changes post-pandemic. The redevelopment will transform a vacant parking lot and the Booth Building, enhancing the local landscape while preserving the street-level architecture.
Community leaders highlight the necessity of such projects in combating the city's homelessness crisis and improving housing accessibility. The Seattle City Council has also reinforced support for the project, allocating funds to boost the services offered at the Constellation Center. Construction is expected to conclude in spring 2027, with a neighborhood access plan in place to minimize disruption during the build.
