Ians Pizza on the Hill opens where franchise bailed over Seattles minimum wage fears

Seattle, WALocal News

Ian's Pizza on the Hill has opened in Capitol Hill, Seattle, occupying a space that was once home to a franchise that closed due to concerns about the city's minimum wage laws. The Wisconsin-based pizza chain aims to provide a unique dining experience with menu items like Mac n’ Cheese pizza and a variety of specialty offerings, which co-owner Brandon Stottler describes as "getting really weird with our pizza. " This new pizza shop comes at a crucial time as Seattle prepares to implement a $15 minimum wage, with smaller employers starting to adjust in 2016. Ian's Pizza will be able to operate under a different wage structure, as they won't face the full minimum wage requirement until 2019, allowing them to enter the market with less financial pressure. The establishment also plans to integrate an old-school salad bar concept using fresh, local produce, enhancing its appeal to health-conscious customers.

Additionally, patrons will enjoy the option of pairing their pizzas with beer, a feature not available at the previous franchise. This opening signifies a shift in the Capitol Hill food scene, as it reflects changing attitudes towards employee treatment and sustainable business practices. Ian's Pizza is located at 1620 Broadway and is open late on weekends, inviting the community to try its innovative menu.
