North Seattle business closes after bullet hits monitor in Aurora Avenue shootout
Empire Insurance Brokers has officially closed its north Seattle office in response to a recent shootout on Aurora Avenue North that caused extensive damage and posed significant risks to its employees. During the incident, a bullet struck a monitor located at the front desk, underscoring the dangers faced by those working in the area. Owner Ryan Ferrie noted that the closure was prompted by ongoing crime issues, including rampant gun violence, prostitution, and drug activity. Surveillance footage from the incident showed a woman diving for safety, illustrating the chaotic environment in which the business operated. Ferrie lamented the deteriorating conditions, mentioning theft, vandalism, and graffiti as persistent problems that made it impossible to continue functioning.
After nearly 50 years in Seattle, the closure has left many longtime customers feeling disheartened, as expressed by local resident Rudy Pantoja. The company plans to relocate its employees to a second location in Everett, seeking a safer environment for business operations. The Seattle Police Department has been contacted for further information regarding the shootout, but no response has been received yet.
