Police warn elderly women after string of purse snatchings in Gig Harbor
In light of a concerning trend, Gig Harbor police have issued a warning to elderly women following a series of purse snatchings in grocery store parking lots. Over the past week, three women, aged between 73 and 80, have been targeted, with one incident resulting in serious facial injuries, including a broken nose, for a 77-year-old victim. Chief Kelley Busey noted that the attacks share similar characteristics, leading investigators to suspect that the same group may be responsible. While police have not yet established a solid description of the suspects, they are actively pursuing multiple leads. As the holiday season approaches, authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and take precautions, such as not leaving purses unattended in shopping carts.
Busey also suggested that women consider carrying only what they need in their pockets to minimize vulnerability. Community members are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement, as the police are committed to ensuring the safety of all residents during this vulnerable time.
