Driver in custody after rollover crash on I-5 in SeaTac

A serious rollover crash on I-5 in SeaTac occurred early Thursday morning, blocking all northbound lanes and causing significant traffic disruptions. The Washington State Department of Transportation alerted drivers around 3 a. m. about the incident at South 188th Street, which took several hours to clear. Lanes reopened around 8 a.

m. , but delays extended approximately 15 miles, impacting routes on State Route 18 and State Route 167 as well. According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson, the incident involved a high-speed rear-end collision between a Kia and a Toyota Tacoma, causing the Toyota to roll and injuring its driver, who was hospitalized with facial injuries but is now in stable condition. The 19-year-old driver of the Kia was arrested for vehicular assault after displaying signs of impairment. Dashcam footage released by the WSP showed the Kia swerving through traffic before the crash, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding impaired driving and its impact on public safety.
