The City of San Antonio has opened the submission period for its 10th Annual MLK Youth Art Contest, inviting students to create original artwork based on the theme “We are the Dream... It takes All of Us. ” This initiative, organized by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission in partnership with the Department of Arts & Culture and other city departments, aims to foster creativity among local youth.

The artwork will be prominently featured in marketing materials for the 2025 Martin Luther King Jr. March and Commemoration, scheduled for January 20, 2025. Councilmember Jalen McKee-Rodriguez expressed excitement about the contest, highlighting its role in encouraging young artists to share their unique perspectives. Submissions are open to residents of Bexar County until October 14, 2024, and will be evaluated based on artistic criteria such as concept and originality. The contest accepts a variety of traditional two-dimensional media, explicitly excluding AI-generated art and copyrighted works.

This annual event has been a part of San Antonio's celebration of Dr. King's legacy since 1987, leading up to one of the largest marches in the country. For further details, participants can visit the official MLK Commission website.
