Municipal Court Renews Focus on School Attendance This Fall

San Antonio, TXLocal News

As the new academic year kicks off, the San Antonio Municipal Court is renewing its commitment to promoting school attendance in support of Attendance Awareness Month this September. Chronic absenteeism, defined as missing 10% or more of the school year, poses significant risks to students' academic performance and emotional development. To address this pressing issue, the Court will host various events that engage parents, guardians, and students in discussions about the importance of regular attendance. The Court's Juvenile Case Managers will continue to offer truancy prevention and intervention strategies throughout the year, helping families navigate obstacles to consistent attendance. This fall, the Court will specifically hold four Senior Summit: Rise to Graduation events, focusing on empowering high school seniors from local districts.

These events will feature interactive workshops and mentorship opportunities to guide students toward successful graduation. Municipal Court Presiding Judge Carla Obledo emphasized that attendance is about more than just being present; it involves creating a supportive school culture. The Court invites community partners to join in fostering positive change and ensuring students are engaged and on the path to success.
