This celebration honors Mexico's independence from Spain and showcases the deep cultural ties between San Antonio and Latin America. Established in 1994, the Diez y Seis de Septiembre Commission is celebrating its 30th anniversary and has been instrumental in creating collaborative events for this occasion. The commission was re-established by the San Antonio City Council in June 2024, affirming its vital role in promoting cultural awareness.

Applications for new commission members are currently being accepted, encouraging community involvement in these celebrations. Events will run from now until October 17, featuring educational programs, exhibitions, and cultural activities.
