Diabetes Insulin Assistance Program Launch at Select H-E-B Pharmacies

San Antonio, TXLocal News

Announced on September 16, 2024, the Diabetes Insulin Assistance Program, a collaborative effort between the City of San Antonio and H-E-B, aims to alleviate the financial burden of insulin prescriptions for local residents. This program is open to anyone living in San Antonio or Bexar County who struggles to afford insulin, with or without health insurance. Participants can receive up to $100 for each insulin prescription, including refills, until the program's allocated funds run out. In addition to financial assistance, the initiative seeks to raise awareness about free diabetes self-management workshops provided by Metro Health. To enroll, individuals must fill out a consent form at participating H-E-B pharmacies, which will enable Metro Health to provide additional information about educational workshops.

Importantly, attending these workshops is not a requirement to receive insulin assistance. The program also offers free delivery of insulin within a 15-mile radius of participating pharmacy locations. Metro Health Director Dr. Claude A. Jacob emphasized the significance of this program in promoting access to essential diabetes medication for the community.
