Rockville Certifies 2023 Vote by Mail Election Results

On November 14, 2023, Rockville, Maryland, certified the results of its 2023 vote-by-mail election, reflecting a total of 12,770 votes cast, which includes 12,637 ballots from Election Day and 133 provisional ballots. The voter turnout represents a 3. 9% increase compared to the 2019 election. Monique Ashton was elected as the new mayor with a total of 7,298 votes, defeating her challenger Mark Pierzchala, who received 5,028 votes. The city council now consists of Kate Fulton, Adam Van Grack, Izola Shaw, David Myles, Marissa Valeri, and Barry Jackson, all of whom will serve four-year terms.

In addition to the mayoral and council elections, voters were presented with four nonbinding advisory referendum questions regarding voting eligibility for minors, non-citizens, term limits for elected officials, and the creation of representative districts. The results of these questions indicated a clear preference against allowing 16-17-year-olds and non-citizens to vote, while there was strong support for term limits for elected officials.
