Rockville Police Conduct Traffic Safety Initiative
The Rockville City Police Department conducted a focused traffic safety initiative on February 14, 2024, targeting key areas on Veirs Mill Road and Rockville Pike. This initiative was designed to enhance traffic safety and promote pedestrian awareness among residents. The Traffic Enforcement Unit employed data on crashes and enforcement, alongside citizen complaints, to strategically allocate police resources to areas with higher risks. During the four-hour operation, officers issued a total of 23 traffic citations and provided 35 written warnings, emphasizing the importance of compliance with traffic laws. Additionally, they distributed 12 pedestrian safety brochures, furthering their educational outreach to the community.
The initiative is part of the department's ongoing efforts to reduce traffic-related incidents and ensure public safety. Residents are encouraged to reach out to Sgt. Jon Lally of the Traffic Enforcement Unit at jlally@rockvillemd. gov with any traffic concerns. This proactive approach reflects the police department’s commitment to fostering a safer environment for all community members.
