Rockville Receives $4M in Earmarks for Emergency Ops, Storm Drains, Water Mains, Sewer Lines
Rockville has successfully secured over $3. 9 million in federal earmark funding to enhance its emergency operations and upgrade critical infrastructure within the community. The funding, part of two legislative packages signed by President Biden, will address five crucial projects, including interoperable police radio communications equipment and improvements to storm drains in the Potomac Woods neighborhood. Unfortunately, a request for $997,500 to upgrade security at the city’s water treatment plant was not funded. To further bolster public safety, the city plans to amend its FY 2024 budget to allocate $1.
5 million specifically for replacing all emergency radios used by police officers. The proposed Capital Improvements Program also includes significant appropriations for water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure in FY 2025. Acting City Manager Craig L. Simoneau highlighted the collaborative effort between city staff and local officials in securing these earmarks. This funding marks a pivotal moment for Rockville, reflecting a strong commitment to enhancing public safety and community welfare.
Overall, the earmarks signify a significant influx of federal support aimed at improving local infrastructure and operational capabilities.
