Exhaust fan causes fire in Airbnb, a common fire cause nationwide

Redmond, ORLocal News

A fire erupted at an Eagle Crest Airbnb on Saturday morning, ignited by a malfunctioning bathroom exhaust fan. At approximately 7:30 a. m. , tenants returning from a walk noticed an unusual smell in their rental located at 1405 Harrier Ct. Upon investigation, they discovered that the master bathroom fan was ablaze.

Redmond Fire Marshal Tom Mooney stated that the mechanical failure was due to the fan being outdated, as the property was constructed in 2001. He recommended that homeowners should replace exhaust fans that are ten years or older and to pay attention to any strange noises that might indicate a problem. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of routine maintenance of household appliances. Fortunately, the fire did not result in any injuries. Local authorities continue to stress the significance of fire safety and prevention measures in residential properties.
