Reminder - Use of Illegal Fireworks May Result in $500 Fine

Redmond, ORLocal News

With the Fourth of July approaching, the City of Redmond, Oregon, is reminding residents that using illegal fireworks can result in hefty fines, with penalties reaching up to $2,500 for repeat offenders. The city encourages everyone to enjoy the holiday safely and to adhere to guidelines set by the State Fire Marshal’s office when purchasing fireworks. Lieutenant Eric Beckwith from the Redmond Police Department emphasizes that the city’s fireworks ordinance applies not only to those using illegal fireworks but also to property owners or renters where such activities occur. In Oregon, any fireworks that fly into the air, explode, or act unpredictably are deemed illegal, and in Redmond, all fireworks are banned in the Dry Canyon Parks System. The city’s dry summer conditions heighten the risk of wildfires, making it critical for residents to be cautious.

Redmond officials note that concerns about illegal fireworks should not be reported to 911, as this line is reserved for emergencies. Instead, residents can reach out via email or the non-emergency dispatch line. For additional information on fireworks safety guidelines, residents are directed to the State Fire Marshal’s website.
