Pune Takes A Step Towards Smoother Roads With Geopolymer Concrete - PUNE PULSE
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking a progressive step by implementing geopolymer concrete for road repairs, aiming to finally address the city's chronic pothole crisis. This innovative material, which combines sand, stone, and polymer, has been officially accredited by the Indian Road Congress, signifying its potential effectiveness in road construction. One of the key benefits of using geopolymer concrete is its ability to allow roads to reopen to traffic just two hours after repair work is completed, a significant improvement over traditional methods. Citizens have long expressed their dissatisfaction with the PMC's repeated failures to provide lasting solutions to road quality, often criticizing the administration's annual experiments that have yielded minimal success. In response to these concerns, the PMC has also issued tenders for traditional tarring and pothole repairs in several areas, like Katraj and Kondhwa, covering a total of 200 kilometers.
Activists and residents alike will be watching closely to see if this new approach will finally yield the desired improvements in road conditions. With the Ganesh festival approaching, the urgency for timely repairs has heightened, placing additional pressure on the PMC. This initiative represents a vital effort to enhance urban infrastructure, improve daily commutes, and restore public confidence in the city's civic administration.
