Pune: Rikshamitra Prepaid Booth Completes 5000 Trips In 40 Days, Saving ₹16 Lakhs For Citizens - PUNE PULSE
The 'Rikshamitra' prepaid rickshaw service at Pune Railway Station has marked a notable success by completing 5,000 trips in just 40 days, providing substantial savings of approximately ₹16 lakhs for passengers who were previously subjected to overcharging. This initiative was established following numerous complaints about inflated fares charged by local rickshaw drivers, prompting a collaborative effort from the Pune Traffic Police, Railway Department, and Kevolution Technology. Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil also extended his support for the project, which has quickly gained traction among the public. In addition to improving passenger experiences, the service has addressed earlier challenges, such as disruptions caused by local gangs, which could have hindered its acceptance. With around 1,000 rickshaw drivers now registered, the service ensures that fares are charged based on the meter, fostering a fairer system for both passengers and drivers.
The initiative has not only restored trust among travelers but also provided legitimate earnings for the drivers involved. This development highlights the effectiveness of community-driven solutions to local transportation issues. Overall, the 'Rikshamitra' service exemplifies how regulatory measures can positively impact urban mobility.
