Fire Damages Unoccupied Rental Home On College Hill
A significant fire incident occurred at an unoccupied rental home on College Hill in Pullman, with damage estimates nearing $100,000. The fire was reported shortly after 10:40 AM by observant neighbors who noticed smoke coming from the property. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find smoke billowing from the roof but no visible flames upon entry. The crew confirmed the house was unoccupied before flames were detected near the chimney, allowing them to focus on containing the fire to the attic. Assistant Chief Andrew Chiavaras praised the firefighters for their quick response, which required them to extend hoses approximately 200 feet from the engine to the front door.
Fire Marshal Darren Jones elaborated that the fire spread through the attic before flames could be seen escaping from the roof, resulting in considerable smoke and water damage. The home, built in 1954, suffered extensive damage, but fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
