Skamania County Sheriff's Office officials stated that exposure was the likely cause of death, exacerbated by severe weather and inadequate preparation for their expedition. The search involved a coordinated effort with approximately 60 volunteers, utilizing canine teams, drones, and assistance from the U. S.
