4 people injured, including 3 firefighters, after downed powerline starts multiple fires in Vancouver

A downed powerline in Vancouver, Washington, resulted in multiple fires and injuries on December 27, 2024, affecting four individuals, including three firefighters. The Vancouver Fire Department was dispatched shortly after 9 p. m. to a scene near Ash Street and East Evergreen Boulevard, where they found the powerline on the ground. During rescue efforts, three firefighters suffered electric shocks due to high voltage in the area.

One victim, who was unable to move, was treated on-site and transported to the hospital in critical condition. Two firefighters were released after evaluation, while the third remained hospitalized for observation. Clarke Public Utilities shut off power to the neighborhood, allowing fire crews to extinguish fires in an RV and a house. The Vancouver Fire Marshal's Office is conducting an investigation into the cause of the powerline's fall, with no significant weather reported at the time.
