The incident happened around 8:48 PM at the intersection of Pacific Highway and Williams Avenue, where Hernandez-Mendoza was in the crosswalk when he was struck by a light-colored SUV. After the collision, he was taken to Salem Hospital but later died from his injuries. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect vehicle made a right turn onto Williams Avenue and subsequently turned left onto Carol Street to evade authorities. The Woodburn Police Department is actively seeking the public's help in identifying the vehicle and its driver.
