Oregon has now found 9 people who voted after being registered by mistake at the DMV
Oregon state officials have revealed that nine individuals voted after being wrongly registered as noncitizens due to a mistake in the DMV's Motor Voter program. Initially, a total of 1,259 registrations were flagged for inaccuracies, prompting a comprehensive review of these cases. Out of these flagged registrations, 10 were found to have a voting history, but one was later confirmed to be an eligible voter, leaving nine individuals under scrutiny. The DMV, in collaboration with the Secretary of State's office, is taking proactive measures to address this issue and ensure it does not recur in the future. Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade stated that Oregonians can be assured the 2024 General Election will not be affected by this mistake.
She emphasized the rarity of noncitizen voting in Oregon and expressed confidence in the state's automatic voter registration system. The inactivated voters will not receive ballots for the upcoming election, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. This incident has raised questions about voter registration processes and the importance of verifying eligibility.
