A shooting in Northeast Portland late Saturday night resulted in the death of 25-year-old Dontae Eugene Mathis Jr. The Portland Police Bureau reported that the shooting took place just before midnight in a motel parking lot located at Northeast 82nd Avenue and Milton Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mathis with a fatal gunshot wound, as confirmed by the Medical Examiner's office. Despite the police's efforts, no arrests have been made, and the suspect or suspects had already fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Homicide detectives have since taken over the investigation, and the area was cordoned off for their work.

This incident is part of a troubling trend, as it was the second shooting reported that night, following another incident where a man was killed, and a teenager was injured shortly after 1 a. m. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation. This developing story highlights ongoing concerns regarding violence in the Portland area.
