Monthly music showcase created as a means to combat over-policing at Portland hip-hop shows while providing platform to Black artists
THE THESIS, a monthly music showcase in Portland, has been instrumental in supporting Black artists since its establishment in December 2014. With a focus on combating over-policing at hip-hop shows, the event has created a vital platform for over 200 musicians, enabling them to share their talents with the community. As the showcase nears its 10-year anniversary, it continues to thrive as a beacon of representation and creativity in the local music scene. The event not only highlights the importance of Black music but also cultivates a supportive environment for artists to connect and collaborate. Attendance at THE THESIS events has steadily increased, reflecting the growing demand for inclusive and diverse cultural experiences.
In a landscape often marked by challenges, the showcase stands out as a testament to resilience and community spirit. By fostering a safe space for expression, THE THESIS champions the significance of art in addressing social issues. As Portland's hip-hop scene evolves, the showcase remains a critical player in advocating for equity and representation in the arts.
