18 Teams Set to Participate in Saturday's Cardboard City Event
The 2nd Annual Cardboard City event, organized by the Cheatham County Homeless Coalition, will take place on September 7, 2024, from 8:30 to 11 am in front of the Cheatham County Courthouse. This awareness campaign focuses on the pressing issue of rural homelessness and its ripple effects on urban centers like Nashville. Eighteen teams of 4-6 participants will compete by building shelters from cardboard boxes and duct tape, with the option to include one additional item such as a rope or tarp. Judges for the event will include prominent local figures, including Cheatham County Mayor Kerry McCarver and Ashland City Councilmember Tony Young. The event aims to not only raise awareness but also foster collaboration among local organizations working to support those in housing crises.
Breakfast will be provided by Hardee's, further highlighting community support for the cause. The Cheatham County Homeless Coalition has engaged nearly 40 organizations to address the needs of those facing homelessness in the area. The coalition also emphasizes the importance of partnerships, as demonstrated through their collaboration with the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
