Reports of the man’s reckless behavior began to surface around 12:30 a. m. near the Durango Curve, leading to a tragic outcome when he was hit by a vehicle. Fortunately, the driver who struck him remained at the scene and was found not to be impaired.

This collision resulted in significant traffic disruptions, with backups extending from the Durango Curve to the Stack interchange, causing the freeway to be temporarily closed. Authorities reopened the freeway just before 5 a. m. , allowing traffic to resume shortly before the morning rush hour began. The Arizona Department of Public Safety is actively investigating the incident and urges anyone with additional information to assist in their inquiries.
